If you're familiar with Veil of Maya, you most likely already know what to expect; heavy progressive metalcore riffing by the one and only Mark Okubo. This album was the first to feature their new vocalist Lucas Magyar, so if you're only familiar with their older material, expect some beautiful clean vocals in addition to their well-known sound. Matriarch has a loose concept, where every song is themed around a female character from video games, anime, TV shows, movies or comics, such as Ellie (The Last of Us), Daenerys (Game of Thrones), Leeloo (The Fifth Element) or Aeris (Final Fantasy VII).
